About this tool

Plan your budget across income, housing, groceries, fixed costs, and savings goals — on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly cycle. The Budget Planner guides you through a step-by-step wizard, then shows a clear dashboard of where your money goes, how much you can save, and what your employer superannuation looks like.

Ideal for Australians setting up their first budget, reviewing their spending after a pay rise, or planning how to reach a savings goal faster. Includes a what-if scenario panel so you can model a salary change or housing move before committing. No sign-up required — all data stays in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Budget Planner store my data?

No. All data is saved to your browser's local storage and never sent to any server. Clearing your browser storage will reset the planner.

What is the savings rate and why does it matter?

Your savings rate is the percentage of your take-home income you save or invest each month. A higher savings rate is the single biggest lever for reaching financial independence — even more than investment returns.

Can I upload my payslip?

Yes. The income step lets you upload an Australian payslip — PDF, Excel, or CSV — to automatically parse your net pay and pay frequency so you don't have to enter them manually.

How is tax calculated?

The planner estimates Australian income tax using the 2025-26 ATO tax brackets, the low-income tax offset (LITO), and the 2% Medicare levy. The estimate is a guide — your actual tax will depend on deductions and other personal circumstances.

Does it include superannuation?

Yes. The dashboard shows your estimated employer superannuation contribution at the current 12% SGC rate (2025-26), calculated on your gross salary. Super is shown separately from your take-home income so you can see your total compensation picture.
